Madinat Jumeirah and The Palm
Continuing our Dubai trip into its third day, we've visited the Madinat Jumeirah resort and its faux souk.
Seeing as it's basically a couple of hotels set around an entirely manufactured market and lake, it has a bit of a "Disneyland of Arabia" feel to it. Quite something. Looking at the above picture, you can only draw comparisons to Disneyland Paris's "Big Thunder Mountain".
After that, we took a cab over to the equally artificial Palm Jumeirah island and its Atlantis hotel. There wasn't much to see though, since we weren't in the mood for spending all our money in steaks or aquarium tickets.
We then headed back to the hotel via a cab ride with who was by the far the most hilarious cab driver we've had...not that that is difficult considering most of them don't speak. Hailing from Ethiopia, he spoke to us in broken English about his wife who looks like Shakira, his love of fares to the Gold Souk (ie. a long way from the Palm) and his self proclaimed "crazy driving".
All in all, funny stuff. Now back to the Jumeirah Beach Walk's Tim Horton's for yet another doughnut and now in the hotel writing this before heading to the pool.
